Torrential rain doesn’t stop Fairweather and Ketteringham
Event 11 of the Fulfords Cycles Time Trial league was eighteen miles and
two laps of the fast Milby - Norton Le Clay circuit and it took place in
dramatic conditions. Just before the start the heavens opened with
torrential rain and fork lightening, leaving the roads streaming and the
competitors soaked to the skin.. The conditions made the usually fast
course difficult, especially around the tight bends where touching a
white line could result in an off. In spite of this Ian Fairweather of
Yorkshire Road Club closed within one win of the championship with a
supreme performance in a time of 40:43, or 26.5 mph! In second, with his
performance of the season and a personal best, came Nova’s Simon
Ketteringham in 42:26, who still harbors ambitions of beating the vets
in the overall championship in the season before he joins them. Twenty
one seconds later and In third, also with a personal best, came current
veteran title leader and second placed over all, Duncan Mullier, eleven
seconds ahead of reigning veteran champion, Simon Hudson. Second placed
vet, Malcolm Yates, lost ground in the title finishing fifth, ahead of
the vastly improving Gary Marks. Joanne Ketteringham continued her
amazing season with a time of 48:01 which put her in the top ten overall
and first in the ladies, her ninth win. Joanne must wait to be crowned
Queen of the league, however, as Corinne Mitchell, on two wins and
absent this week, still has a faint hope if she can win all seven
remaining races. Full results by clicking Results/fixtures or on nova.mullier.me.
