Scotton 100 proves tough going!

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Last Sunday’s weather again made for very difficult, wet, cold and muddy conditions for the annual Scotton 100 run by Dave I’Anson of Clifton Wheelers. With 97 riders entered, the weather accounted for 10 non-starters with several riders not finishing. However, Harrogate Nova were very well represented with 10 riders, 8 doing the 100km and 2 the 50km option. Mike Wilberforce enjoying some excellent form, broke away in the last few miles, to finish in a fantastic 2nd position in a time of 3 hours 28, just behind the fastest time of Nigel Goscinski (Clifton Wheelers) 3.27. Paul Caswell and Paul Lehan tried in vain to bridge the gap to Mike, but finished in joint 3rd in a time of 3.30. Greg Ketteringham last year’s fastest rider, suffered in the cold, finished in 3.36, brother Simon Ketteringham also suffering from the cold and was overcome with cramp on the last hill, finished in 3.45, Ian Caswell finished in 3.57 and Simon Hudson and Duncan Mullier who both punctured, finished in 4.17. Chris Mawer rode strongly to finish in the fastest time in the 50km ride in 2.26 with Paul Fleetwood in 4th fastest 2.42. Despite the conditions, the event once again proved a serious challenge and was again very well organised with excellent grub on offer at the end. Thanks Dave!
